A World Policeman: "The Price we pay!"
Much
of the political rhetoric during this election year is in support of a national
obligation to take overt action to curb Isis and protect Israel, our best ally
in the Middle East. No mention is made
concerning this nation's financial cost and loss of human life or the lengthy
and agonizing residual suffering of those who lost limbs or wake up screaming
in the night.
Being the World's policeman is expensive and it appears no
one is offering to pay for our help; in fact, it tends to be the reverse! It seems, the very people we seek to help
don't like Americans - but they will accept our foreign and military aid
providing we keep out of their affairs.
At an earlier time in history, the Great Roman Empire asserted its military might. The difference between their approach and
ours is that Rome took from the defeated enemy virtually everything that wasn't
secured to earth as payment for the expense of war - not to mention acquiring
thousands of slaves to perform manual duties within the country. Our President is proposing to accept 10,000
displaced Syrian refugees - but, slavery is out of the question and in the end
these refugees will be one more cost of our military involvement!
Currently, we are spending $100 thousand per missile to
kill off the enemy in the Middle East. Ignoring
the military cost, one wonders who gets
to pay for all that damage from our massive weapons - not to mention, while all
of this is going on, our country's bridges are falling apart and the national
road system is in need of repair.
Apparently, no one is discussing our national debt of
$19-trillion and counting. The question
remains: "How do you plan to cure all the
ills in the Middle East and pay down our national debt?"
Obviously, this debt is the price we pay for endless wars.
One wonders if we plan to leave these problems behind for our
grand-children to solve?
