Open letter to House Speaker Pelosi

Open Letter to House Speaker Pelosi

The Webster's Seventh Collegiate dictionary defines a fence as: "1. A means of protection: DEFENSE;  2. A barrier intended to prevent escape or intrusion or to mark a boundary."

No matter what you political geniuses end up doing with respect to border security, a fence is necessary.  This is a matter of common sense - without some sort of boundary marker ("a fence"), any person caught violating our border can argue he thought he was still in Mexico.

The perceptive American voter is fully aware that those caught violating our borders are allowed to request asylum and tie up our judicial system at a huge cost not to mention the expense of various holding areas.

The fact that caravans in foreign nations, numbered in the thousands, have organized with the intent to inflict themselves upon our sovereign nation with the expectation they have a "right" to be here is an insult to the integrity and the rights of all those persons who have sought citizenship in accordance to the legal method.  Many of us are angered by these events and disappointed with our national leaders who appear to be engaged in twiddling their thumbs while Rome burns.

A missed opportunity . . .

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi: If you were a "deal-maker" and a bonafide leader of the "House," you could have negotiated the size, height and cost of a "fence" and attached certain legislation to this agreement:

Consider this:  "We," (meaning the U.S.) decide to put up a chain link fence at a more reasonable cost and post signs all along the border fence stating that "Trespassers will be prosecuted and barred from requesting asylum."

This would be accompanied by legislation amending certain provisions of the Immigration Law to deal with the current border invasion in exchange for a reduction in the border wall costs - for example:

1.      Those persons apprehended in the act of crossing our border in violation of our nation's immigration laws should be barred from requesting asylum.  They should be finger printed and returned immediately to their country of origin.

2.      Those persons caught violating our border a second time should be prosecuted for a felony and thus permanently disqualified from entry or citizenship to this country.

This solution would save the taxpayer literally $-thousands in housing expenses and would relieve the huge burden now imposed on our court system.  Moreover, word would get out that this old technique of barging across the US border and, if caught, requesting asylum is no longer an option.

Instead, it appears you, along with many Democrats, have allowed your hostile feelings toward the President to overcome your duty to act in the best interest of the United States.
