Reparations for African
Americans
According to a short article in the July 17, 2019
Salinas Californian, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer favors a "Reparations
Study" which would offer monetary rewards to descendants of former slaves . . .
interesting . . .
Can we speculate that indecisive
people who cannot adopt a position on an issue must first request a "Study"
in the hopes that someone else can take the blame for any decision made? This, of course, adds more cost to the issue
in addition to what amounts to a massive give away of taxpayer dollars.
According to this article, a massive
search of birth records and other documents would be necessary to identify
descendants of these slaves. Never mind
the fact these descendants have no realistic connection to long deceased slaves.
Who gets to pay for the cost of this search and how much reparation
money is necessary to assuage the guilty conscience of those concerned with
this issue?
Here is a suggestion: Why not search birth records and other
documents identifying the former slave owners and charge their descendants the
cost of this reparation boondoggle?
This seems fair to me.
